USA VictoryWe've all heard the news that there are insurgents attacking US and NATO troops in Afghanistan. There is an article by World Net Daily that the British intelligence reported that the current strategy deployed in Afghanistan will not lead to victory. The report says further that the best that we can hope for is for the insurgency activity to drop to a level manageable by the Afghan government. Why? Insurgents seem to have unlimited supply of new man-power.

In the World War II, the enemies (Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and Fascist Italy) were just as determined and radical as today's Islamic insurgents in the Middle East. Read the rest of this entry »

The God DelusionToday will be remembered as one of the saddest days in my blessed life so far. My grandfather just passed away and before I heard that sad news, I saw this article about a college student who committed suicide after reading a book by the famous atheist Richard Dawkins called "The God Delusion."
I remember when I first saw the book, I had the sick-to-the-stomach kind of feeling much like when I first saw a copy of the much controversial Japanese book called "The Complete Manual of Suicide" (pictured below). Read the rest of this entry »

No AppleEven if you don't live in California (we do), you may have heard about Proposition 8 that was passed on November 4th to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman (as per Genesis 2:22-25). There have been violent protests about this Californian Constitutional amendment and other similar laws passed in other states. Being backed by the governor, protesters gathered around Saddleback church, Mormon churches and other places. These sad acts are expected from sinners (just like myself before I met the Lord) who haven't come to know Jesus, the only Savior that can set us free from our sin. So this is not really news.

But what is news to me (I just found this out) is that Apple, the manufacture of Macintosh OS, had donated $100,000 (or at least pledged to) to defeat Proposition 8, which would have devastated families, ministers, and children. I always suspected that Apple was a liberal-leaning company, but did not have any evidence for it. Now I know. Christians, if you don't like Windows (I certainly don't), get a PC with Linux! And don't buy Macs to support Apple! If you need help getting used to Linux, please write to me and I'd be happy to start a series of articles to help you out.

Also there are other alternatives to iphones and ipods too.

debianRecently I decided to switch to Debian from Ubuntu mainly because I felt that Ubuntu is getting slow. Of course the obvious disadvantage is that there will be things that won't work out-of-the-box. One of the items on the menu to be tweaked and hacked is suspend and hibernate. Now I really don't use hibernation, but just suspension. So what I've shown you here may work for hibernating. I just don't know b/c I'm too lazy to test it. Sorry.

I heavily consulted this tutorial and this advice given on the Debian forum. Read the rest of this entry »

Imperial JapanThe longest and the most expensive election cycle in the US is now over. We're now beginning to see the potential landscape of the US government in the next few years. Regardless of your political persuasion, I think everyone can agree that this country will see some big changes soon. In this context, there are historical lessons that people ought to know. I'm not 100% if this is going to be a series, but here it is.

What we should know about Imperial Japan
After the end of the Shogunate government in 1867, Japan began the process of modernization under the heavy influence of Europe. A constitution modeled after that of Prussia (early form of Germany) was enacted in 1889. Surprisingly, this constitution is, at least on the surface, similar to the US constitution. Janet and I have been pre-occupied with many things in our life this past year. I wish I had done more for this website, but I wasn't able to find the time and energy for it. As we will be going through some fairly major transition in our life next year, I am praying about what we may do for this website. One thing we have decided already is to start posting again. Some of the first posts will most likely include topics like politics, evolution-creation issue, authority of the Bible, and some minor how-to's for Linux. But there may be others. Stay tuned...
